Grants and Scholarships
Renewable grants and scholarships are awarded by Richmond on the basis of need and/or merit. Students who receive them for their first year will receive them in subsequent years; it is unlikely that other students will receive them for the second or third year. There are some merit scholarships awarded to currently enrolled law students who do particularly well academically.
Financial Aid decisions are often made based on submission of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). We recommend that prospective students file this form by March 1, 2008; currrent students should file by May 15, 2008.
The John Marshall Scholars Program was established in 1998 as a result of a generous bequest by Joseph Dickerson, a member of the Class of 1932. Scholarships of $10,000 each are awarded to a number of incoming students each year. (John Marshall Scholars will also qualify for other scholarships awarded on the basis of merit or need.) The scholarship is renewed automatically each year, provided the recipient ranks in the top third of his or her class. John Marshall Scholars are chosen by a blue-ribbon panel of Virginia Supreme Court justices and prominent alumni. They are invited to participate, beginning in their second year, in a specially designed seminar during the course of the academic year. Contact the Law School Admissions Office for more information.
