Richmond Scholars (“Merit-Based” Scholarships)

The university considers all first-year students for the Richmond Scholars program provided that they:

  1. Submit a complete application, postmarked by Dec. 15. The components of a complete application are:
    • Completed Common Application or Richmond Web Application
    • $50 application fee or an approved fee waiver
    • A recommendation from a guidance counselor or other school official
    • A transcript that is complete through the end of the 11th grade (or its equivalent)
    • Official results of either the SAT or ACT. For non-native speakers of English, the TOEFL is also required.
    • For Common Application users: the completed University of Richmond Supplement to the Common Application and a response to one of Richmond’s essay prompts.
  2. Complete all standardized testing by Dec. 31.
  3. See additional submissions required for those seeking the Artist Scholar designation.

Richmond in Reach (“Need-Based” Aid)

To apply for need-based aid through Richmond in Reach, complete these three steps (none of which requires a fee):

  1. Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). You may submit the FAFSA form online or obtain a paper copy from your high school guidance counselor. This completed application must be submitted to the federal processor (the form will tell you how to do so) on or before the University of Richmond ’s deadline date of Feb. 15.
  2. Complete the University of Richmond Financial Aid Supplemental Application. This form also is included in Richmond ’s Admission Application packet. The Supplemental Application should be submitted directly to the Financial Aid Office by Feb. 15.
  3. Submit signed copies of the previous year ’s tax returns (all pages and schedules) and W-2 forms. If your tax return information is not yet available by the Feb. 15 deadline, then wait to submit the Supplemental Application until your tax information is complete. We will accept this application after Feb. 15 without penalizing the applicant. However, please note that we cannot provide a financial aid decision until all materials are received.
