While some sources of financial aid are awarded based on demonstrated need or merit, others are available to all students. These sources help students and families pay for a college education while lessening the impact of paying all at once.

Virginia residents are eligible for additional support.
All students can apply for on-campus employment and loans.
Some students are offered Federal Work-Study or subsidized Direct Loans as part of the self-help portion of their financial aid packages, but the University's student employment and loan programs include other options for students who don't qualify for need-based aid.
